As reported in the Traver City Ticker, a new recycling drop-off site has opened in Acme Township near Oak Shore Commons.
RecycleSmart, the Resource Recovery program for Grand Traverse County, announced this week that the new recycling site replaces a former site located off Bunker Hill Road. The new location is at 6455 US 31 North. Users enter through the Oak Commons entrance and head north past Pickle U and Flex Self Storage. The green recycling bins are in the north parking lot past the building. Users are advised to be mindful of ongoing construction on the east side of the complex parking lot.
Oak Shore Commons is an adaptative reuse of functionally obsolete commercial space that sat blighted and vacant for several years. Strathmore Real Estate Group purchased the former Kmart and Tom's Grocery and renovated both buildings for ecommerce retailer Truly Free and a recreation and entertainment venue containing pickleball courts, a state of the art fitness facility, and a golf simulator venue. Rounding out the commercial redevelopment is the Flex Self Storage facility providing Grand Traverse County premier climate controlled self-storage units available for rent.
Strathmore Real Estate Group was tasked by community officials to provide affordable housing as part of the redevelopment. Strathmore responded with the Oak Shore Commons apartment community featuring apartment homes that are affordable at 60% of the area median income and up to market rates for a variety of units.
